Sudan’s War Started One Year Ago

Psalm 139:1-3, 9-10 “O LORD, you have searched me and know me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways… If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost part of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.”

In Psalm 139, King David eloquently described how intimate the Lord knows every human being. He knew His people before they were born. He knows the number of their days. There is no where they can go in this life, or the life hereafter, apart from His presence.

Knowing this, followers of Jesus can boldly stand in faith, even in the face of persecution. This promise also enables believers to accomplish great Kingdom exploits when conditions appear dangerous and hard.

In our last newsletter, I asked you to pray for the Lord to protect Adam as he accompanied the shipment of Bibles and other scriptural resources to Darfur. I am happy to report that he returned from that mission last Friday.

He had to travel through a war zone. The terrible roads he traveled took a toll on his body. He was robbed of his phone on the way. Yet, despite all the potential dangers and challenges, the Lord was with him. Everything was delivered safely and is now being delivered to believers, churches, and schools. Now we ask the Lord of the Harvest to bless Adam’s sacrificial obedience by bringing in a harvest of souls and healing his body.

While in Darfur, Adam learned about the dangerous situation in which two biological sisters were living. They are pictured below, but to protect their security, their faces are blurred. Their story is one of God’s amazing grace.

The two sisters

The Two Sisters

The sisters were students at a university in Khartoum when they received Jesus as their Savior. When the war started in April of 2023, the area where they lived quickly become embroiled in fierce fighting. Most of the residents of the area fled. They stayed in their apartment for three weeks, afraid to venture out because they knew what could happen to them as women.

One night, the Lord appeared to the elder sister and told her it was time for them to go back home to Darfur. He promised to be with them and protect them from harm. The sisters walked for six hours within Khartoum seeking help. They saw destruction and many fearful things, but no one troubled them. Miraculously, a car stopped, and the driver asked if he could help. Remembering the Lord’s promise, they hopped into his car. He drove the sisters to a place where they found someone ready to depart for Darfur. Their journey lasted three days, but finally they arrived home.

Thinking their family would be happy to know they were safe, the sisters told them about their faith in Jesus, and how the Lord had fulfilled His promise to see them safely home. Instead of sharing in their joy, their family demanded the sisters to recant their faith. When they refused, they were threatened with death. Ultimately, the sisters were given a place of refuge in the home of other believers living in the same community. Yet the threat of being discovered and killed remained.

Because of your prayers and giving, Adam was able to take the sisters with him back to Uganda. They are now safe in a community of believers. Your gifts also enable CRM to rent houses and provide food and medical care for those who, like those two sisters, had to flee Sudan to their new place of refuge.

Other Answers to Prayer

  • The South African Bible printer received permission to print 50,000 New Testaments in the Sharif Version. No royalties required. These New Testaments will be distributed in Darfur and in the refugee camps located in South Sudan.
  • CRM received the green light to apply for a grant from Send Relief to provide food to believers at the Wedwiel Refugee Camp in northwestern South Sudan just across the Sudanese border. We’ll keep you posted about this project.

CRM’s mission to empower gospel movements among least reached people has led all of us involved on an amazing journey of faith. We invite you to continue the journey with us through praying, giving, and going.
