Behold, the days are coming declares the Lord God, when I will send a famine on the land not a famine of bread or of thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.
AMOS 11-12

These words, delivered by the Prophet Amos, were a declaration of God’s judgment on a generation of people who continually ignored His Word. The image of people staggering great distances to get a word from God is heart breaking.

In this second newsletter of May, I want you to read some of the testimonies shared a few weeks ago with our boots-on-the-ground partner who delivered 3,000 Bibles and 500 MP3 players to people thirsting for the Word in Darfur.

“This is not only a book for me to read, but it’s like a pharmacy to me. It’s healing my heart, my soul, and even my physical pains. I like it.”

“This book was prohibited for us to have it in our country. We used to fear even to hear its name, but when Christians came here and preached the gospel, we found that it was so interesting to hear that things are so different than what we had heard about Christianity. … So, it has been my desire to read the Bible, but it was not available. Today I see God has answered my prayers through you.”

A lady who has been a very effective evangelist, sharing the gospel with 2,000 people, said this when she saw Bibles delivered to her church. “With one Bible I shared the gospel with all my village. Now that we have more Bibles, we will turn our whole area from darkness to the light of Jesus Christ.”

An older illiterate lady said this when she received an MP3 Player (Messenger). “It’s so good that I have something to teach me the word of God. Since I don’t know how to read, this small thing will always be my teacher. I lost mine when my hometown was attacked. I thank God for all of you who are still thinking about us and our people here. Now I have my new teachers and my memory will be filled again by the sweet words of God.”

These folks were among the fortunate. Over 16,000 people had registered to receive a Bible. When our partner departed, he sadly left over 13,000 people still hoping for the day when they will possess one.

Thank you for giving to CRM, so that we could fund the purchase and transport of these Bibles and digital scriptural resources. However, may the thought that there are over 13,000 people we know about who are “staggering to hear the Word of God” compel us to continue giving and praying. Also, may we who own multiple Bibles never be found guilty of taking that privilege for granted.
