You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
GENESIS 50:20 (NIV)
Joseph’s statement to ten of his brothers is one of the most important statements in the Bible. Out of envy they sold him into slavery. But Joseph remained obedient to God through all the circumstances that befell him in Egypt. God sovereignly used Joseph’s obedience amidst hard circumstances to save his family and fulfill the prophecy God gave to Abraham regarding his descendants.
The ongoing civil war in Sudan is the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. It’s also been largely forgotten among the world’s other geopolitical crises. Approximately 11 million people have been displaced. The death count may be as high as 275,000. The UN and its agencies warn a further 2 million may die from malnutrition. But in the middle of it all, God has not forgotten His people. He’s using the circumstances to save many for all eternity.
Bibles for Darfur (Sudan)
When our brother A… delivered 3,000 Bibles to the Jebel Marra (JM) area within Darfur in western Sudan, he was told that over 16,000 people had registered to receive one. But over 13,000 people were left without a Bible. And, as A… also reported, a multitude never had the opportunity to register.
Some JM leaders have already sent reports about the immediate impacts the Bibles are making. It is reported that every Bible is shared among four people each month; meaning, 18,000 people have some days each month to read the Bible and use it in evangelism and discipleship. In one of the towns on the perimeter of JM,1,500 people have received Jesus. In one of the interior JM villages, 627 have turned to Christ. Our field partners believe future reports will add to the unfolding picture of dramatic impact.
However, leaders within JM are paying a price. Because of your prayerful giving, within the last two weeks, CRM funded the evacuation of a leader and his family of five from JM because his life was under direct threat. Unfortunately, he was seized by the RSF on the way to South Sudan and badly beaten. But he survived and is now with the brethren in Arua, Uganda. Thanks to you, CRM was able to evacuate that leader and his family and provide for their care upon arrival.
The opportunity exists to purchase another 5,000 Bibles for JM. Please pray about helping us purchase them. The price is $8.5 each.
Wedweil Refugee Camp Food Aid Project (South Sudan)
Our Darfurian field partners will next week begin the second of three food distributions to 300 families living in desperate circumstances in the Wedweil Refugee Camp in northwest South Sudan near the Sudanese border. Pray for their protection and the Spirit to give them discernment. The gospel is spreading quickly among this camp’s 12,000 plus residents.
In hard circumstances, Joseph offered what he could: his unswerving obedience to the Lord. Our Sudanese brethren are doing just that. Please enable CRM to stand with them.
