About CRM

Our Mission is to “empower self-sustaining gospel movements among the least-reached people groups of North and East Africa."

Our Vision is to “see self-sustaining networks of indigenous believers planting and multiplying churches and disciples.”

CRM was founded in 1998 by John L. Shepherd, Jr., a retired Tennessee pastor, to serve as the platform for partnering with International Mission Board (IMB) personnel evangelizing the Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania. Once the IMB personnel moved on to other assignments, the work among the Maasai continued, but in conjunction with Kenyan and Tanzanian Baptist conventions. John was the president of CRM from its founding until his death in late 2013.

From 2014 to 2019, the Rev. Alan McAlister, senior pastor of the Central Baptist Church of Clovis, New Mexico, served as CRM’s president. Under his leadership, CRM began training and supporting indigenous pastors in India, Zambia, Uganda, East Asia, and South Sudan using the Story Cloths. Alan and his wife, Peggy, also expanded the ministry to train African public-school teachers in how to utilize the first Creation to Christ Story Cloth in their classrooms to facilitate Christian education and general education courses.

In 2019, David Crane became CRM’s third president. Prior to assuming the post, David and his wife, Renee, served for twenty-three years with the IMB in East Africa, the first eleven of which as church planters among the Maasai. Under David’s leadership, CRM expanded its focus to train new indigenous pastors using both Story Cloths and minister to Sudanese and South Sudanese refugees and internally displaced people groups in refugee camps across East Africa.

From its inception, CRM has depended on the prayers, giving, and going of its partners. Hundreds of believers have had life changing experiences by serving on CRM short-term mission teams. Many have gone multiple times. CRM also highly values its partnerships with local churches in the United States to fulfill the Great Commission. With God’s grace and your support, CRM and its partners will continue praying, going, and giving well into the future.
